More Than Metal: The Meaning Behind the Name

More Than Metal: The Meaning Behind the Name

“What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other word would smell as sweet.” —William Shakespeare

Ever wonder how a piece of jewelry gets a name like Whispering Petals or The Scarlet Arbor?

Naming my work is a little like naming a song or a poem—it has to feel right. A good name holds the energy of the piece: its story or inspiration. Sometimes, a design whispers its name to me while I’m on the bench. Other times, I stare at it for days, letting the vibe settle in until something clicks.

I like to think of each piece as a little character with a different mood or rhythm. Some names are playful alliteration (Celestial Slivers and Silver Serendipity), while others, such as Reclaim, carry a bit of mystique or grit. The names are invitations to connect, a reminder to see your own story reflected.

Truth be told, naming isn’t always easy. I’ve polled my A-list subscribers, scribbled down wild ideas on scraps of paper as they come to me, and even used random name generators to get the creative ideas flowing.

Jewelry isn’t merely about the sparkle and shine; it’s about the resonance that ignites our emotions.  And a name? That’s the first heartbeat of connection—an electrifying moment that transforms it into art. To me, that’s what makes it truly special!
